It Was A Wonderful Trip

We stayed at Legend Water Chalet Port Dickson (PD) and it was a very nice trip. After checked in and had some rest we went to the nearby hotel (Glory beach hotel) to check out the beach condition. We saw kids riding on a horse. We decided to let out kids ride on the horse since my little girl hasn’t had this experience before. After that, we went straight to the beach to build sand castle. The kids really enjoying themselves playing sand and I joined them too.

The room interior designed was superb and there was a built in see through glass where you could see the below area from your room. I brought along my fishing rod but there seems to be no fish around and only small crabs.

We didn’t go for swimming because my kids caught a cold just before we leave for PD. Dinner time came and I guessed I and my family were the first to be in the restaurant (because we didn’t go to swimming pool). It was a buffet dinner and we truly enjoyed the meals. The reason I went to PD was to celebrate my 10 years wedding anniversary. Time flies just like that and seeing my kids grow was the most beautiful experienced.

Above all, LOVE. Spend quality and quantity time with your children. Be generous with your praises and lots of hugs. Bring corrections and discipline to a child with love and consistency and one day your children and grandchildren ‘arise and call you blessed!’

Remember, the greatest gift that a father can give to his children is to love his wife!

Short Holiday To Port Dickson

Tomorrow i and my family will be going to Port Dickson (PD)for a short holiday. The last time i went there was about 2 years ago. The place that i'm staying is located along the coastal stretch of PD in Negeri Sembilan on the west coast of Malaysia. The journey from my house to PD is about one and a half hour drive and the kids will surely love the place very much. When i come back, i will show some pictures to you.

Just completed the basic monitor course for 3 of the Malaysia Airport Technologies (MAT) staff. They came last year for basic electronic and next year will be in the advance monitor repair course. The participants told me that every year MAT sent their staff for training. The furthest place they sent was in Australia. Some had took the PLC programming, windows server and networking courses too. MAT is truly a blessing to their staff. Next week there will be another batch of three coming for the basic monitor course. Hope after the rest in PD, i again will give the best to all of them.

While on the way back home after sending my son for a night classes, my car met an accident. The driver from the other car hit the boot and the bumper was totally wrecked and we were shocked by the accident. Thank God that all of us inside the car (me, my wife and daughter) were safe. The driver kept saying sorry as he also worried about our condition. This is the first time that my car was knocked from behind with such a big impact. We could felt that the seat belt really at work otherwise we would hit the windscreen and cause injury to us. I saw his car in the front part was badly damaged too. We decided to carry on with the trip tomorrow and only next week i will send the car for repair.

As for the weekly electronic repair article, i will only send it next week. Take care my friends!

Looking Forward To Teach More Repair Courses

I suppose to go on a short vacation today and plan to send the repair article on friday but out of sudden my son developed a high fever. I have to postpone the short trip to next week and will be sending the repair article in few more hours time. Yesterday i just completed the advanced monitor course for the young guy. He finished all the 3 major courses and starting from next week onward till end of the month he will be station in the technical department to start repair customer monitors. Although i shared to him all the repairing secrets, he still need to be expose to the actual faults in Monitor. Practical or hands on is still the best to learn electronic repair.

Next week a new batch of MAT staff will be attending the basic monitor repair. They had completed the basic electronic course last year. For your information, each of their staff are eligible to take up one of our course per year. That's mean, once i completed this basic monitor course for them, they will come next year to take the advance monitor course and another year for LCD monitor repair.

There are some good news too, in august and september there will be students attending the LCD monitor repair course. After setting up my new website electronicrepairguide.com and jestineyong.com it seems that i got more enquiries about the courses. Since i want to expand my company especially in the repair courses, i had consulted a salesman about the advertising. I plan to advertise in this coming either august or september to let more people know about the courses. Hope after advertise more people will be taking up the repair courses from us.

After completion of the course one can always choose which field they want to be in. It is not necessary must be in the Monitor repair line. I'm just using Monitor as a guide to teach about electronic repair. You can choose to be a technician in monitor, tv, cctv, automobile, parking system, alarm system, audio, computer and many more in repair. You can also work in big firm too like matsushita, national, panasonic, samsung, LG, Epson and etc.

Completed Another Course For MAT Staff

Completed another basic electronic course for the malaysia airport technologies (MAT)staff. At first i didn't knew that they sent two ladies to attend my course. I was only told 5 staff will be attending the course. One of ladies have diploma in IT while the other have diploma in Engineering. They have no problem handling all those hardware stuff. This course is target to those who are really new or have some experience in electronics. I always tell my students that my job is to build a road for them, whether they want to sit, stand, walk or run is actually depends on themselves. To run means after the course, build more electronic projest kits, visit repair forum, read electonic books and magazine and etc. There will be non stop of acquiring electronic repair kbowledge and the process of learning electronics is continuous! This is true also if you want to improve yourself in electronics or any other field that you interested in.

The young guy now is taking the second level course which is the basic monitor repair. He had spent 3 days in my technical department where my supervisor guide him on the practical side especially on the basic electronics. He trained him again on the soldering and checking electronic components skill. I could see that he have the heart of loving this job. Whatever electronic components assignment my supervisor gave him, he was able to solve it-marvelous!

Even he is good at reading Monitor schematic diagram and locate the Monitor circuit too. For your information, at the end of each day of the course, i will hand the students about 10 to 15 questions and this young guy was able to answer 90% of the questions. He is the type that never give up easily and i seldom see any students that come close to him- to be honest.

I told him that he is blessed to have a good father and family members that support him in his study. He is not from a well to do family and after completion of the course i believe he will be able to contribute back to his family finance after he start working. I just want them to be independent and stand on their feet and not always to depends on parents. Somehow you just have to climb your own ladder one day and no one will climb it for you. Seeing my former students successful in their repair career really made me have a great joy and happiness in my heart.

Electronic repair courses

Just finished giving a basic electronic course today for the student that i've mentioned in the last post. He is only 19 years old and have decided not to continue with his study. He told me that he love to dismantle things and find out how it works (same as me) when he was young and willing to start work after completion of all my courses. I've been told by one of my TV repair friend that he is looking for a junior tech and a general clerk. I will train him till end of july and most probably hope that he can start work by 1st of August.

Just after 3 days attending the basic course, he is independent now and had no problem in troubleshooting electronic components. He will start to take the basic monitor repair course on next Thursday as this course is totally different from the basic electronic. He will be expose to many types of circuit, how to read schematic, simple modification of electronic circuit and many more. Next monday till wednesday, again starting the basic electronic course for the MAT staff (5 of them will be coming). Looks like i have to talk less so that my throat have the time to rest. Me and my family members just celebrated father's day few hours ago. We had a simple dinner at a restaurant nearby my house. Usually every year, we will celebrate after one week of the actual date to avoid congestion in the restaurants. Hope i'm not too late to wish all of my readers a happy father's day! MAT Courses Start Today

Courses for Malaysia Airport Technologies (MAT) start today. Every year MAT sent about 10 over staff for training and newer staff will take the Basic Electronics course first before proceed to take the Basic Monitor repair course the following year until the completion of the course which is the Advanced Monitor Repair. Somehow this year have an additional course which is the LCD Monitor repair course which will be starting on this coming August. So far we have sent out some quotation to MAT and University Cyberjaya and one big corporation, hope their management will approve the course.

Today’s course was attended by four of the MAT staff and they are doing very well and looking to learn more in the next two days. This coming Thursday, there might be another basic electronic course held for a participant. Remember from the previous post 3 months ago, a participant just after completion of form 5 wanted to learn from me all the troubleshooting and repair skills but he got a called to serve in the national service (NS) for 3 months. Now the NS training was over and his father called me saying that he will be sending his son next Thursday to be train under me. I will conduct the course in Mandarin. If everything goes well, then I may be very busy from Monday to Saturday for couples of week just to give training.

Last week, there was another caller from Kuala Trengganu expressed his interest in the courses too. Quotation already sent out and now just waits for the purchase order only.

Wow! About the fishing trip, it was very fruitful. Good weather, calm sea, and the best is the good catch! Not to mention, good food too! Every of my angler’s friends were very happy and many will be looking forward for the next trip. Some suggest go to pulau (island) AUR which is somewhere near pulau Tioman in this coming September. Well, if all planned accordingly, perhaps after finishing giving all the courses, I may take a rest by going to the place my angler’s friends have suggested. Click below to view the photos

Came Back From MUAR

It was a very good holiday at my in law’s house in Muar. I slept a lot as though that my body has been very long time didn’t relax! It really rejuvenates my body and mind and I could think of lots of electronic repair ideas too. Not only that, I went to lots of hawker stalls to try the local foods there as the price was much much cheaper than KL. I also went to one of the famous electronic shop in the center of town to buy some ultra fast recovery diodes as the price was also much cheaper than KL. No wonder lots of Singaporean like to visit Muar when there’s a holiday because their money currency rate is about 2.3 to 1 Malaysian Ringgit. That’s mean for every 1 MR equal to 0.43 Singapore dollar. Besides, it only took them 2 hours drive from Singapore to Muar.

My free time mostly spend with the kids and I like to bring them to “Tanjung” because there have lots of playgrounds for children, good scenery (besides Muar river), fresh air and a nice pedestrian walkway by the Muar river too. Opposite the river, I could see SG Thompson semiconductor and one of my former college mate works there as an engineer.
I went to a local bookstore too and stumbled upon the magazine “Electronics For You” and I bought it and finished reading it in the middle of the night.

While in Muar, I received a call from my company saying that Malaysia Airport Technologies has confirmed sending their staff for training. It was really good news to me as I’m looking forward for their confirmation since on April. Well, the course will be starting on 18th of June and will be end on August. By the way don’t miss out on all the photos that I have taken during when I’m in Muar. This coming Friday, I’ll be leaving for Merchung again for sea fishing, hope this time there will be no more big wave! School starts tomorrow and as usual, got to wake up early to fetch my kids and wife before going to work. Oh yes, my new website is almost complete and will be launching soon. Taking A Break

Tomorrow i and my family will be going to my in law's house in Muar Johor for a holiday. This week is the second week of school holiday so i better bring my kids to visit their grandparents before the school starts next week. I will be there for about 4 days and the article that i suppose to send to you every week will also be delayed. I'm planning to bring my family to watch SHREK 3 at the local cinema there and enjoy some nice food at the hawker stalls and many singaporeans love to visit Muar too. Its a small town and not busy like KL. Will post some nice photos when i come back.

Last week my family members celebrated my birthday and it was fun and joy. If you look back, you could see that time never and will never wait for you- it just passes so fast.

I completed the advanced monitor repair course last saturday and my student can't wait to go back to his technical workshop to start practising the repair tips that i taught him. He told me that he got a lot of Monitor problems that can be solve by using the methods i shared to him. He is the kind of person who never give up.

Today while working, my car mechanic sent me a Toyota automobile mainboard for repair. I told him i could not test the board as it need some special ways to check it. The most i could do was to check all the components except the big cpu and some customize IC's. After spending quite sometimes, i concluded that the components surrounding the IC's was good. He came and brought the board back and retest again. Later when i met him, i asked about the board. He told me that he actually found a connector loosen out under the dashboard and the board was working fine now. This story reminds me of a repair friend who repair the Mercedes Benz power windows circuit board many years ago. He told me that he used Huntron tracker to troubleshoot the fault and manage to charge high prices on such repairs. If you would like to diversify your repair business, automobile circuit board repair could be lucrative to you too.

Advanced Monitor Troubleshooting Course

Today was my second day conducting the advanced monitor troubleshooting and repair course. There was only one student attending this course, by right it should be three but because the other twos (they are partners in a computer firm) got a call from a big corporate asking them to deliver new computers by this week thus i have to make another date for them to attend. As for this student, he is currently working
with Nintendo company as a senior tech. His job is to repair the amusement machnie (gaming TV or Monitors). He already took my basic monitor repair course about 2 years ago and now decided to take the advanced monitor repair. The way i saw him doing the practical work i knew that he had learned so much within the 2 years repairing the gaming TV and the main board. He is such a humble guy and willing to take the extra miles in order to achieve his dream as a professional electronic repairer.

I could see that he was very happy when i reveals all of my secrets repair tips that can really cut short his troubleshooting and repair time. May be one day i should interview him how was it like working in the amusement machine industry. What say you?

High Voltage Probe

A former student of mine came to my office showing me a high voltage probe bought from Taiwan by his boss. The brand name was PINTEX. Before this he had difficulty of testing the high voltage of the monitor. Why do we need high voltage probe? The probe will show us the exact high voltage value produced at the anode by the flyback transformer. Whenever a monitor shutdown we need to know at what voltage level does it shutdown. Does the monitor shutdown at less than 24 kv or above 24 kv? With high voltage probe you can quickly determine at what voltage the monitor shutdown and you can easily determine the relevant circuit and from there you can start your troubleshooting job.

His high voltage probe need to be connected to a multimeter in order to read the reading. From the manual, it says that 1volt= 1000 volt! That's mean if your meter registered 24 volt is actually 24000v or 24 kv. As for me i still prefer to use a high voltage meter that comes with a panel meter on it. It's simple and very easy to read. Technical Department Need This...............

Yesterday there was a salesperson walked into my office trying to sell something to me. You could see those salesman were very aggressive pushing their products at coffeeshops, streets and from door to door. The products that they were usually sell was books for kids (educational products), electrical gadgets, household items and many more. Okay come back to this salesperson, the moment this salesperson show me the product i immediately thought of technical department. It was a small, white and powerful LED torch and the neck can be turn 360 degree. Because of this product small in size, have the flexibility and cheap, i immediately bought it. It comes with a free radio with earphone and three extra batteries!

I knew that my technical department already have a torch light but somehow i liked this design and it really suit when it comes to the point you want to see the part numbers of components located under the belly of CRT picture tube. You can push the neck of the LED torch light deep into the covered area. Guess how much is this led torch light? It was only RM10.00 (about USD2+)

Just received latest Nikkei Electronics Asia Magazine

Time flies, another month had passed. It seems like i'm getting this magazine every week! It's been exactly 3 months since after my electronic repair guide dot com website launched. At the moment there are about 600 subscribers had joined as the members of the ERG and i'm expecting more by end of the year. I'm targeting about 3000 to 4000 members by end of the year. I'm planning to start a forum too but with my current tight schedule i could not allocate much time to manage the forum. I'll put on hold first, and when the right time comes, i will definitely set up one for the ERG members to discuss about electronic repair!

Is Electronic Repair Line A Dying Trade?

It Was A Wonderful Trip

The holiday at Genting highland was great and the condition was so cold especially at night. We had our steamboat dinner and everyone in the family enjoyed the food so much and we brought our family members to the Theme park and watched fireworks (celebrating Labour day) and the kids were very happy to see such bright colorful sky caused by the fireworks. We even went into the man made snow room (with minus 6 Celsius) and start throwing the ice to each others. All of us really had a great fun in Genting highland.

What amazed me about this resort is the founder when at the age of 50 (he had a vision), he sold off his tin mining business in the 60’s and use the money to build a resort on a mountain which is 2000 meters above the sea level. Many of his friends said he was insane to make such decision. Nothing can stop his dream from coming to reality. He had the determination and courage and the vision that is far ahead of his time. At present, this resort and its subsidiary making net profits billions of dollars every year! He is still alive and just celebrated his 90th birthday with his family and the business is now run by his son. Do you have a vision? If yes would you like to turn your vision into reality? Then start take action NOW because this famous quote by Albert Einstein said “Noting Happen Until Something Move”.

Going For A Holiday in Genting Highlands

Today and tomorrow is a public holidays (Labour and Wesak Day). My family and my wife’s family members is going to Genting Highland for a holiday The last time I went there was about 2 and a half years ago. Genting Highlands is the most developed hill resort in Malaysia. At 2,000 meters above sea level, it offers a cool respite from Malaysia's capital city combined with all of the excitement, luxury, and entertainment of an international resort destination. The resort also includes two theme parks (kids will surely like this), both with dozens of amusement rides and attractions suitable for the entire family. Just 3 days ago, Olivia Newton John performed a spectacular show at Genting Arena jam packed with 4,000 of her fans. When I come back, I will show you some pictures of it. Went to Orphanage Home

I and my wife went to Tengku Budriah cheras orphanage home yesterday and it was organized by her employer which is Maybank. I saw many kids and some as young as few months old abandoned by their parents and it was pity and sad to see such things happened. There were about 30 – 40 Maybank staff to help out in playing tele-match with the children and also help to carry the younger one to walk around the center. The younger one just needs more of our attention and our love! In order to entertain those children, we invited my friend who is a professional clown a.k.a uncle button to perform a clown show there. We could see those children were very happy and at the end of the performance they were given balloon animals. By the age of 18, they will be independent and will leave the center to look for job. We are blessed to have parents who care for us and whenever we want them they will be at our side. Don’t take things for granted, appreciate our parents when they are still alive and not when they are no longer with us. This coming mother’s day, have you decided to spend time with her or carry on with your routine job? Without them we would not be here. Think about it.

Acid Alkaline Balance In Our Body

Just completed reading this book" Reverse Aging-not science fiction, but a science facts! by Sang Whang" which talk about drinking alkaline water. It mentioned that a usually sick person is very acidic in his body thus need alkaline water to flush out the excessive acid from the body. It also mentioned that doctors in Japan discovered if a person sick not caused by virus or bacteria then most probably was due to too much acid in the body. It clearly explained how by drinking alkaline water that high in excess oxygen can prevent the development of cancer. It’s a good read and I need to find out more about alkaline water information. As for me, I drink distilled water produced from a distiller. I drink distilled water after reading the book by Paul C Bragg “The Shocking Truth about Water” many years ago. It really helps and especially mixed in with apple cider vinegar to maintain the body’s acid-alkaline balance. One must always take good care of their health and remember to exercise and don’t over indulge in the things you love. Without good health many things or visions can’t be accomplished in our life. How long have you didn’t exercise?

Bought Tools For Technical Department

I went to Jalan Pasar KL (pasar road jalan pudu) today to buy some electronic stuff. This place is well famous for selling electronic and electrical things. Most of KL electronic repairers go to this place to look and search for electronic spare parts. I would usually go there at least one in 2 months to buy and check if there are any new arrivals of technical books, monitor spare parts and etc. I found a data book by NTE USA but I didn’t buy it because it has many similarities with the ECG Philips semiconductor replacement guide.

I went to most of the electronic shops there and some I just do window shopping while others I bought some tools for my technical department. If you are new in electronic repair and local and wish to know where you can get those electronic spare parts, why not just drop by and have a look.

Merchung Fishing Trip Photos

Just before I and my friends go for the fishing trip, we received a call from the Merchung boatman saying that the sea was quite rough and it is not recommended to go out for fishing. Due to this situation, we hold a meeting and all agreed that the trip have to be “on” because the whole purpose for the fishing trip was not about catching fish but more for togetherness and enjoy the seafood. We proceeded our journey and by 7.30pm we reached Kuala Rompin and had our dinner there. The weather looks good on that day but no one knows about tomorrow’s weather. After dinner we went to buy some fruits and foods at the nearby mini market before heading to Merchung. As usual when we are in the chalets everyone would be busy preparing their fishing gear and talks about jokes, families, and many other topics. This is the time of real fellowship!

We went to sleep about 11.30pm and woke up at 6.30am for breakfast. The weather doesn’t look good but improving. After breakfast, we waited for another 2 hours just to see if the weather improves or not. At about 9.00am the sky was bright and clear and we sent a boat to observe the situation. We got a called from the first boat saying that the sea condition was a little bit choppy and still tolerable and he added if you wish to come you may do so. We made a decision to go out and if the sea is bad we will come back and just fish at the riverbank. I was in the second boat and we cruise along the river for about 15 minutes before we could reach the wide open sea.

True enough the sea condition was still not improving and we decided to fish at the riverbank. I could see some of my fishing buddies were quite disappointed-me too but we can always make a trip back here anytime. There is always a better tomorrow. No point to force ourselves and we heard from the boatman said that there was once a boat capsized not long ago due to big wave. This time around the climate was very unusual; by right the sea should be calm at this season. Some boatman said it was the effect of the tsunami happened in the Solomon island recently. How true was it, I’m not so sure. There could be other causes too such as global warming and etc.

There is no fun fishing at the riverbank and after 1 hour we went back to our chalets waiting for the fist boat. While waiting, we do some casting at the jetty and caught some small fishes. We chatted again at the jetty, and enjoy the beautiful scenery and heard birds chirping. This kind of condition you can’t find it in KL and it was so relaxing and the mind really refreshed!

Finally the first boat arrived and after shower, we packed our things and went to nearby fishing village to search for fish to buy. We managed to buy three lobsters for dinner and 3 of my friends bought a 8kg ebek fish (trevally family). They want to bring it home and show it to their wives. We told them please don’t buy salmon and cod fish (it’ an imported fish and can’t be found in Malaysia water) and show it to their wives-we all laughed.

Away For A Fishing Trip In Merchung

Tomorrow I will be going for a fishing trip with my fishing buddies. Every year in the month of April just after the monsoon season I will surely join my fishing friends to Merchung Pahang. This is the right time to catch those big one. Click the map to enlarge it and you could clearly see where Merchung is. The journey will take about 4 hours and we will reach Rompin first for a dinner before checking in into the Merchung chalets. We will start fishing from 7.30 am to late afternoon and after dinner we will be heading back to KL. It’s been a long time since my last fishing trip was at Kelong pulau sibu Johor on November 2006. Fishing will make me temporarily don’t think about my busy daily schedule and will help me to discharge all my pressure. So there will be no posting on electronic repair articles for couples of days because I’ll still need some time to recuperate once I get back. Turning Fishing Tackle Box Into LCD Repair Tool Box

Two days ago I went to a fishing tackle shop to assist my friend in buying fishing equipment. He is new in this sports fishing and I have to recommend some basic fishing gear, hook, rod and line for him. I will be going for a fishing trip next week. While browsing through the items displayed on the rack I stumbled across a small fishing tackle box. I thought to myself, this box looks great by placing all the LCD Monitor repair tools in it. It’s neat and convenience too! The price tag was only RM17.00 which is quite cheap. I bought it and very happy about the internal compartment which you can adjust to suit the things you want to put in. May be later I will also put in the smart tweezer LCD meter (read the above post).

Making Money Online

I used to be giving public seminars and private talks about making money online (you can check this website), but because there was some changes in the internet search engine plus my heavy schedule in providing electronic repair information and teaching, I have to temporarily stop the talks. The good things about internet business are that the business runs 24 hours a day and 365 days a year! I don’t need to hire workers and what I did was to actively market the products from my home computer. Somehow last month internet business earning was quite good and you can see it by clicking here. This earning is just from only one account and I have two more active accounts.

The reason I tell you this is that everyone can excel in whatever they do if they put in their energy and time on it. If you like electronic repair then go for it, put full concentration on it and start building your foundation. Once you have gained and know well about electronic repair, you can then diversify into some other business if you wish to. Besides getting income from my teaching and monitor repair business, making money online part time is an additional income to me. I love internet business very much just the same as in electronic repair.

Whatever fields you intend or wants to do involved action. Without action nothing happen. “Whatever a man sows, he will reap”. I love this quote by Dawson Trotman
“The greatest amount of wasted time is the time not getting started”. Think about the quote again, if you have a dream or vision and haven’t fulfilled yet, why not start today?

As for the young guy who wanted to attend all my courses, his father calld me up yesterday saying his son was selected into National Service Training (NS) for 3 months. More and More LCD Monitor Sent For Repair

Recently my company is getting more and more LCD Monitor sent for repair. Currently most of the brand was from DELL and the range was from 15 to 17 inches. I do receive Samsung LCD Monitor for repair but many of them were the main board problem. The symptoms was OSD showing the message of “Not optimum mode, Recommended Mode: 1024 X 768 60hz” and once the input jack plugged into system, the monitor shutdown. Replacing the main board solved the problem. I have to find time to do some research on this common fault and hope to get the answer soon.

I was really excited because two days ago, there was a large corporate company interested in my Monitor repair course (CRT and LCD Monitor). They told me that they are going to send lots of technicians for me to train them. The requirement was that I have to go to their company and conduct the courses and the place was about one and a half hours journey to there. I have no problem with that since they are sending so many of their techs. I was asked also to prepare the outline for the CRT and LCD Monitor repair courses. By the way the LCD Monitor repair course will only starts on august and it is a 3 days duration course.
At the same time, I’m also preparing quotation for the Malaysia Airport Technology about the courses. Last year they sent about 17 of their staff and I was informed also that they will even send more this year-wow! Hope everything will goes well and the courses will start as soon as possible.

Writing electronic repair articles for my readers needs lot of patience. First I have to find a good and interesting topic to write and then I have to use my digital camera to take the necessary shot. When I got back home and after everything is done I would upload to my website for you to enjoy. Usually the topics that I choose are for newbie’s and advance electronic repairers. I have to cover some basic information because I do have new comers who interested in electronic repair visit my website. If there is too much basic stuff then the advance electronic repairers would not find my website interesting. Guess I have to balance up 50/50 to cater to all levels.

For the past few days I’ve been having cough, sore throat, sneezing and headache and I should be fully recover in few more days. Besides electronic repairing, fishing and internet marketing, I also have a passion in natural healing. I would use natural method for the body to cure itself and I don’t take medicine! Drinking spirulina, fruit juice, apple cider vinegar and take garlic pills will usually clear up my symptoms in less than 7 days. I have a reader who suggest to me to take chicken soup and drink lots of water- thanks for your concern. One has to take good care of their body and make sure you have enough sleep. Since I do not have much time to jog I would jump on trampoline and it is a real good exercise for your heart and other body organs as well.

Providing Training For A School Leaver

Last year around october i conducted the full courses for a school leaver sent by his family. He is now working in an audio and video repair shop and i'm glad that he is independent and without having to depends on his family for support. He told his friend (a school leaver-after SPM) that he took up all the electronic repair courses from me. Today, this young man (about 18 years old) came to my office with his father and enquired about the courses. I explained to them in details about the courses and to my surprised he is willing to take up all my courses. The courses duration is about a month (basic electronic, basic and advanced monitor repair) plus i put him into my technical department for real hands on training to repair customers monitors.

He will not confirm the class until next week because he is waiting whether he will be selected to join the Nasional Service Training(NS). If not selected then the course can be start on next tuesday. He told me that he would not want to further his study in college and want to learn something that he passion for which is electronics (practical). Today, my partner just completed a printer repair course for a lady participant from Felda prodata. She had taken the advanced monitor repair course few years ago and now she is working in the printer repair department and taking up the course would expand her printer repair knowledge. By the way i won't do any posting tomorrow because i was invited by my friend to his house for a gathering.

A Refresh Course For My Former Student

He had took all the courses that i offered last year and because of he was very busy doing his computer business, he had no time for practical at his work place. He had forgotten some troubleshooting procedure and requested from me to give him a refresh course. I agreed with him since he was my former student and i did not charge him. He truly shown his passion for electronic repair because he purposely drove 200km from Melaka just to attend the one day refresh course. I explained to him again some of the important troubleshooting steps in repairing monitors and he managed to recalled and he capable repaired few of his monitors took from his company in Melaka. He was very happy and told me that he have to find time to practice otherwise he may forget again. If you are new in this electronic repair line, i strongly recommend you to practice building some electronic project kits, read electronic repair books, visit forum and also don't forget to visit my electronic repair site where i would post repair tips almost everyday except sunday and when i'm on holiday.

By the way, my computer recently run very slow and i could not open up my website building software and if you noticed that i didn't post new electronic repair tips for couples of days, may be the hard disk going to kaput because the hardisk can't run the defragment program. I have only two choices, either get a new harddisk or buy a computer with the latest spec with windows vista software.

As usual, when we are in any shopping center, i would go straight to bookstore to look up for any new magazines and electronic repairing books while my wife would bring the kids to the children section. I found the bookstore located at the top floor and the name of the bookstore was Kinokuniya bookstore. It's big and the engineering section have more technical books than other major bookstore in KL. After browsing through the book racks, i found two books which are very suitable for beginner and intermediate electronic repairer. The reason i bought both books is that i love to read technical books especailly dealing with electronic repair. Even the books are for beginner and intermediate, i do still found some interesting repair techniques and tips that haven't know about. Remember the quote by Benjamin Franklin that i mentioned in the electronic repair course article?

While browsing through the magazine section i noticed there was a new electronic magazine. The magazine name was Electronics For You, it's from india and quite cheap about rm12.00 (about US3.4) per copy. It has a free cd included in the magazine. The contents of the magazine talks about microcontrollers, meters, internet, software (c++), test and measurement, circuit design (ideas) and many more. Petronas Twin Tower- KLCC

School holiday starts today and i'd had planned for quite sometime to bring my family to visit KLCC. The last time i went was about 5 years ago and this building is the tallest twin tower in the world! Early in the morning after breakfast, i brought my family to take the Komuter train and then Putra LRT to KLCC. I could drive there but me and my wife felt that the kids should be expose to the experience of taking a train and LRT. The kids really enjoyed when they are on the train. They asked so much of questions and grinning all the time. The journey took about 35 minutes to reach KLCC.

Once we are there, we took photos of the towers and my wife began shopping . About the interviewed with a TV repairer article that had i posted on my website, it took me approximately about 6 hours to complete. This included the interview, photos, article written and posting to my electronic repair website. I was really exhausted and sleep quite late but the KLCC trip had refreshed me. By the way i had confirmed with my friend for a fishing trip in early april. Looking forward for that trip to relax myself.

Happy and Blessed Chinese New Year

Tomorrow, i and my family will be celebrating the Chinese new year festival. After the lunch reunion dinner, i will be going to my in laws house in Muar Johor. The happiest time now is my kids , and they wish to take more 'Ang Pow' and enjoy. I'm taking about a week to rest and also meet my old school friends and their families. Perhaps this is the best time to think what other thing that i could do to improve my electronic repair website. Currently my website is receiving average 100 uniques visitor perday. Just Bought A New LG 32" LCD TV

Printer Repairing And Troubleshooting Course

Last week there was a printer repairing course conducted by my working partner to a participant from Perwaja Steel Gurun Kedah. The participant job mainly is to troubleshoot laserjet and he wants to know more about printer repair and he is a very hardworking guy. I myself don't repair printer except only on repairing the power board. He is very keen want to learn basic electronic also but the management only giving green light on printer repair course. This is only a two days course and my partner revealed every secrets he knows about printer repairing which included the laser jet and dot matrix. We do provide support for those who attended the course such as spare parts, tips on repair, email and even phone. We will make sure they won't be left out and be successful in printer repairing.

Finding Time To Build My Electronic Repair Website

It's been three weeks since my last post-it's really time flies! Well,it is like a cycle, the school start and got to sleep early and wake up in the morning to fetch my wife to work, and sending my kids to school. After school and work, have to send them back again. Although it's quite tiring, i could felt the togetherness and bonding with my family-it's kind of building relationship with them-worth it! Due to the time spend on the family matters, i guess i have to delay the electronic repair website launching date to early or mid of february. Currently it has over 40 pages packed with quality photos and information on electronic repair. Hope this time i will complete my website on schedule. By the way, in the month of january there's only one class on and most of my time was spent on the research and development on the monitor LCD repair. Hope the course can be ready by end of june. Time flies, well we are almost reach end of the year and looking forward for 2007. Have you set your goal for next year? What is your aim or resolution for next year? Building My New Electronic Repair Website

It's time for me to eventually build a new electronic repair website for you all to enjoy. The schedule of launching will be somewhere in the mid or end of January 2007. I will inform you through this electronic repair blog once the website is completed. I'm taking this task as my next year resolution in order to provide a better electronic repair information for fellow repairer. If you read all my electronic repair articles at http://www.noahtec.com/electronic-repair-articles you would understood i've already stop writing the articles since last year august. Next year i'will be dedicate most of my time to send you my repair articles at least once a week-be sure to subscribe to my free newsletter when you visit the website. It's not that easy to build a large website about electronic repair especially it have to be jammed packed with photos and good quality repair articles. Bear with me and i'm sure you will be impress when you see the new website soon.

Last week commpleted a class for a student from Malacca. I've told you that he is a computer dealer and keens on electronic repair. He took my refurbish flyback and advanced monitor repair course. Within 9 days spread across three weeks he finally took all my courses. As i mentioned to you before, i don't mind teaching one student, as long as he has the interest to know more about the subject. At the last course he even brought along some monitors for me to train him. I don't know whether you believe it or not, he managed to repaired 6 out of 7 faulty monitor. The other unit of monitor that was beyond repair was due to a defective picture tube. A couple units of monitor developed a short circuit in the flyback transformer internal capacitor. By using the refurbish course method, all of the defective unit got back their life worked wonderfully. He was glad and he knew that the money he spent for the course will pay itself back in the very short time. I'm proud of him. By the way, he is married with two kids. Age is not the reason for you to stop learning. There is one saying "if you think you can, you can".

Tomorrow i will be going for holidays with my family to Penang. I will visit my elder sister house first before checking in into hotel. It's been almost 10 years since the last time i went to Penang. I'm sure the kids will truly enjoy the trip.

DVD Servicing and Practical Power Supply Books

Last week while I was shopping with my family and visit to a local bookstore I was amazed to see electronic repair books displayed at the bookshelf. Normally only computers and electronic theory books available in the bookstore. There's so many electronic repair books title and I had chosen the DVD and practical power supply book. As I have mentioned many times before in my previous post was about the importance of upgrading yourself in the electronic repair world. Though the DVD servicing book is not relevant to my repair field, I found that the DVD schematic diagram given was real good and clear. It explained how a DVD work and where to check when problems occurred. I've also learned some new repair tips from the power supply book. Adding these type of repair knowledge will only make you better in electronic troubleshooting. I will continue to buy electronic repair books as long as I found new information in it. Learning has no end and only yourself that limit it-so keep reading! Few days ago just completed another class for a student from malacca. He is a computer dealer and love electronics. During the 6 days course, he had learned so much about electronic and monitor repair and he brought along 7 units of monitors for repair. He managed to repaired 3 monitors while the other 4 monitors is flyback problem where he need to refurbish it. He's planning to come back for the advanced monitor and refurbish flyback course in one or two weeks time. It's great to see a guy that have the same passion like us-LOVE ELECTRONIC REPAIRS!

As for the joint ventured with my friend on the balloon twisting website, I've managed to made some sales. Those sales were from the United States. Now the website is still new and I need to do a lot of marketing work, once stable I can expect it to make tons of sales everyday-wish me the best! After launching the balloon website, now I'm on the way to built another website just for electronic repairer only. You gonna love it as it will be packed with tons of my electronic repair articles, photos and will update frequently about electronic repair. The day just before i went to kelong i told you about the two students attending my course. Below is the picture taken during the course.

Last week i received a call from Malacca saying that he wants to attend my full electronic repair courses. I thought the course only start on next week but he called up today and want to start the course tomorrow. I agreed to him to start the basic electronic course and next week will continue with the basic monitor repair course. Actually he was my former computer dealer which I've lost touch with him. He came to me after seeing my blog. He is in the monitor repair business now and wants to upgrade his electronic repair skill by attending the courses. Well, here's another guy that is truly have passion in electronics!

During these past two weeks after came back from kelong fishing i'm busy preparing information for the next year Lcd repair course. I have to dismantle and sort out all the board such as the power board, inverter board, main board, lamp, lcd panel, scaler or driver board and etc. This will take some times to prepare and hope those students who already taken all my repair courses will have the patient to wait for it. At my office there's more and more LCD monitor coming in for repair. The charges is higher compares to crt monitor and the good news is, it is not that really tough to repair LCD monitor. I'm coming out with my own lcd repair schematic that can easily cut down the repair time just like what happen to my crt monitor course where i gave out to my students my own monitor schematic secrets where you can't get it elsewhere. Understanding these secrets and with little help from some gadgets and test equipments could help you to troubleshoot a monitor in the fastest time and chances of repair it would be higher.

Kelong Fishing Photos

The first day we reached kelong was a bit hot especially in the afternoon. Eventhough it was hot we have no choice but to sleep due to the long hour morning drive. It took about 2 and a half hours to reach Tanjung Leman jetty from Ayer Hitam Toll. I slept at the upper deck of the dormitory bed. Some of my friends says it was like a furnace or oven (laughing). Usually at end of the year the whether should be a bit cooling but somehow this time it was hot. On the second and third day the whether was fantastic and it was like air conditioning blowing 24 hours non stop. The sea breeze was just excellent! On the first day there's not much catch due to sea water condition. The current was slow and sometimes not flowing at all. This will cause the fish not to take our baits. We are a bit disappointed after coming long way from KL. Somehow in the middle of the night there was a guy who keep on pulling up fishes. This really amazed me because the technique that he's using is totally different from ours. I got a surprised too when he's willing to share his secrets to me. It was like a blessing and thank God for this guy.
So on the second day i began to share his secrets to my other kaki fishing friends (anglers). Well guess what? We caught a lot of fish from this little secrets learned from the guy.We are truly appreciated for his kindness of sharing his fishing secrets. The moral of the story here is, if in your life or career there's so many competitions and everybody is doing the same thing-there would be no progress or little result. Try think out of the box and be indifference. That's what happen to my internet business. The competitions is so great and i'm frequently have to force myself to think out of the box in order make sales. Even till now while i'm away for fishing the sales are still coming in. That's the good thing about internet business. It runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. Another thing that i want to tell you about this fishing trip is about the bonding of father and son relationship. Nowadays many parents are too busy with their work till they have neglected their duty as parents. The children will do their own things while parents have other priority to attends to. Fishing is one of the way to bring them together and enjoy the happiness in the father and son relationship. One of my friend brought along his father which is already 78 years old. He told me on his younger days, his father always brought him along for fishing. The bonding is so great and now is the time for the son to perform his duty in taking care of his father by bringing him to go fishing. Currently i'm doing a joint ventured with a friend selling a video product which going to be launched soon. I will let you know about the launching date. Kelong Fishing Getaway

Currently I'm still conducting two more students for the basic electronic course. One of them already took all my courses on April and May this year and he is now recommending his partner to attend the course. I allowed him into the course because he wants to accompany his partner. Tomorrow is the last day of the course and after that I will be going to my in-laws house with my family which is in Muar Johor. I will be meeting my kaki fishing friends at ayer hitam toll in the morning and will have breakfast in Kluang before proceeding to Tanjung Leman and take a boat to Kelong.
Time past so fast and it's been a year since I went there. I really like kelong because of the fresh air and sea breeze and also the seafood! Imagine you can fish there all day long and no pressure from work. I will be there for three days and two nights. Definitely my family will miss me and of course I will miss them too. When I come back they will surely hug me and I will do the same to them. Love will start all over again-how wonderful. I will show some photos to you when I reach home. God bless!

LCD Monitor Repair Course For Next Year

I'm planning to start a Lcd monitor repair course in early of next year but because of the tight schedule of the other repair courses, i have to delay it. You have to prepare a lot of thing in order to start a new course such as notes, get lcd monitors, the schematics and etc. As to why i want to start this course is because we are getting more and more lcd monitor in for repair besides Malaysia Airport Technologies want us to have this course for their staff who had completed the Advanced Monitor Troubleshooting course. The KLIA Airport is already using Lcd Monitor to display the arrival/departure flight information. Those days they were using the made in the UK 25" dual mode tv/monitor to display the arrival/departure information. I hope by mid of next year the Lcd monitor repair course will be complete.
Well, again i had just completed the 3 courses for the MIA staff and the guy from Bintulu Sarawak. They were very happy because they have learned something new from the courses especially the guy from Bintulu where he attended the 2 courses (advanced monitor and refurbish flyback course) bought esr meter, semiconductors, monitor blur buster and technical books. He also already booked the dick smith flyback or lopt tester. I could see that he's very keen in the electronic repair and i hope one day he could achieve his ambition to become a professional electronic repairer. In this Advanced Monitor course i reveal every secrets that i know about monitor repairs. The most interesting part that he enjoyed is the circuit modification technique. He also learned how to troubleshoot monitor using an Oscilloscope. I wish all the best to him and his family. The other day i met the 19 years old guy (my former student-see previous post)and asked him how's his job. He told me currently his boss is giving him VCD players to repair. I guess his boss wants to train him from the simplest task before giving any big Tv for him to repair.

Advanced Monitor and Refurbish Flyback Course

Next week I will be conducting 3 courses for Malaysia Airport Technologies staff and a guy from Bintulu Sarawak. The basic monitor course is for the MAT staff while the advanced monitor and flyback refurbishing course is for the student from sarawak. From previous post i did mentioned that the guy from sarawak shown passion in electronic repair. Now he wants to complete the whole courses in noahtech. I guess he is ready to accept any challenge in monitor repair after completing both courses. As for the 19 years old guy who had taken all my courses and now under training in noahtech went for an interview yesterday to apply for the post of junior tech. Guess what? He got the job and his task is to repair TV, audio equipments and also computers problem. I'm really proud of him. I told him to learn and get as much experience as possible and who knows one day he could become a professional electronic repairer and have his own shop. May be by that time he is already repairing plasma and LCD TV!
Last two weeks i went for a fishing trip in merchung again and this time the results were quite good. After the courses next week i will be going fishing again but this time will be in Kelong Mersing Johor. It is a yearly trip-if you search for my previous post i believe you could find the photos that I've taken at Kelong (I think somewhere in early November 2005). Let me tell you my friends-besides electronic repair and doing internet business my other greatest passion is Fishing! Fishing made me temporarily forget about the jobs pressure and it is a great time to refresh your mind and rejuvenate your body and the greatest of all is the time of fellowship with friends and makanship-so let's go fishing!

Latest Semiconductor Data Book

Most of the technicians and engineers know that semiconductor databook play a very important role in helping them to troubleshoot electronic problems faster. Though we have internet to search for data but not all we can find from the search engine and it is not possible to eveytime to log into internet to look for any part numbers. The semiconductor book is handy and can be reachable within seconds. Philips ECG semiconductor master replacement guide had stopped its new issue. The last ecg book was dated back to 1998 and so far i knew the latest for NTE guide was 2003 edition. We as a tech must upgrade the technical info so that we could solve electronic problems faster. If you click on the picture and enlarge it you could see all the specifications of a components from volts, ampere, watts, frequency, ohms to recommended substitution. For every new edition published i will surely buy them no matter the price it because data book can pay itself back within the shortest time. If you don't have one, make sure you get it from your local electronic distributors.

Bought Kyoritsu Insulation Tester

From the last few post i did mentioned to you that i'm going to buy insulation tester. Here it is now (see photos) the kyoritsu insulation tester. There's many types and ranges of insulation tester but somehow i still preferred the above model which can produce DC output of 250v, 500v and 1000v. Why a repairman need an insulation tester? For your information i bought just to specially check the high voltage capacitor. For example a 102 2kv cap can't be check with our normal analog meter because the maximum output from this meter only could reach 12 + volt dc.

It is a wrong way to use analog meter to confirm whether a high voltage capacitor is working or not. These high voltage caps usually will breakdown when under operating voltage. Checking the capacitance alone won't really let you know how well is the internal insulation is. Thus we have to use an insulation tester to test. The meter will pump in the high voltage dc to test the internal insulation, if there's a short the needle will move upward and stay there. In fact i have collected quite a number of high voltage capacitor that test good using capacitance and analog meter but failed using the insulation meter.

LCD monitor inverter board are using high voltage caps ranging up to 3 kv and usually about 27 pico farad. These caps can breakdown when under loads. Using the insulation tester to test these caps is a sure way to confirm whether the caps are working or not. It really save my time and if the caps test ok then i will move on to check other components-no guessing game. Hope in future will buy more good equipments to speed up the electronic repair.

Finally The Young Student Decided To Attend My Course

Last week I've done two workshop for straight six days. Only two students-one from bintulu sarawak while the other from rawang. The student from sarawak actually holds a bachelor degree in electrical and electronic from Nottingham Trent University-UK and currently working as a project engineer for a local engineering firm. He told me that he wants to learn electronic repair is to equip himself to be better in repair and also can help up his brother doing part time in TV servicing. The passion that he had shown really impressed me because he took a week leave, left behind his loved one in sarawak just to come here to learn electronic repair-Wow!. For your information-the flight from Sarawak to KL is about 2 hours. He stayed in his friends house in PJ and every morning he took Komuter(train) and LRT to reach nearby our place then my partner will pick him up to our office. May God bless his career and his family abundantly.
As for the other student, he had decided to take up my whole course which included the advanced monitor troubleshooting and repair. After the course, i will station him in the technical department to repair customers monitor with the guidance from me and my supervisor. Today, i met a TV repair friend and he said he wants to look for a junior tech. I told him about my student (also looking for a job after my course) and he is very interested to hire him. Most probably my student can start work at 1st of November. This whole month i got to train him (only 19 years old) well to prepare for the new job. Really Miss Electronic Troubleshooting

Somehow this year i conducted more electronic repair courses than ever before and i felt really tired. Every night i have to go to bed early to prepare for the next day as though 24 hours is not enough to me. Well, i think i got to learn time management! I do not know why this year more and more people like electronic repair but thank God for us is considered a blessing. Two days ago, received a caller from Perwaja Steel gurun Kedah saying want to learn printer repair. When submitted our whole course he wanted to learn basic electronic repair as well! While having lunch today in my office there was three persons came in asking for courses info. Actually was a lady ,her boyfriend and her younger brother. She asked on behalf of her younger brother about the courses. Her younger brother was only 19 years old and wanted to learn about electronic repair. Sometimes young men really do not know about their ambition. I've been in their position before-changing a lot of jobs before finally settled down in electronic repair field.
When we are young we just have too many options, we need someone to guide us. We cannot be "Jack of all trade master of none" . In this case her sister had found a suitable field for him. I told her that her brother must have passion in order to learn electronic repair otherwise she will be wasting money sending him to learn something that he is not interested in. I had explained everything to them about the courses syllabus and let them go back and consider first before sending her brother to attend my courses.

Next week there will be a participant from bintulu sarawak to attend straight 6 days on the basic electronic and basic monitor troubleshooting and repair courses. Looks like i have to upkeep my stamina to prepare for next week! I really miss troubleshooting. Hope after all the courses will have the chance to be active again in electronic repair.

Just Completed Another Basic Electronic Course

Looks like at this moment I do not have the chance to repair monitor because I've just received another purchase order from Malaysia Airport to conduct Basic monitor troubleshooting course for six of their staff for next week and end of next month. I really miss electronic troubleshooting (I guess those of you who is in this troubleshooting line will know). Two months back I already employed my former supervisor to help out the technical department because I could foreseen there will be a lot of classes on and I will not have the time to repair. True enough, besides Malaysia Airport, those who saw my website also interest in electronic repair. Today, I've just received a called from kuching sarawak saying that he will be coming to attend the basic electronic course in this coming 27th to 29th of September.
I might get a new meter soon hopefully next month. The meter that I'm getting is Kyoritsu insulation tester. I'm hoping with this new meter will help my staff to be more efficient in troubleshooting electronic components especially in checking high voltage capacitor. Since I do not have much time to spend on technical department, I will try to get as many as possible good testing equipment to assist the tech's in solving especially 'tough dog' problem. Why I want to buy this meter is because normal analog multimeter and digital capacitance meter can't measure high voltage capacitor correctly. With this meter, it will detect capacitor that will breakdown when under full operating voltage. Though the chances of capacitors failed when under full load is quite rare, well deep in my heart I just to want to have one.

I may also get another good tester from Germany which is the Steinel Master Checker and is highly recommended by Ian field ( a professional electronic repairer). Electronic Repair Course Still Coming In

Well, i got to let you know that for the past few months i'm quite busy with the electronic repair courses that was held on July, August and this month September. I'm just finished giving basic and intermediate electronic course for the staff of Malaysia Airport Technologies. This week MIA only sent three staff and i will continue the course for the remaining four staff starting on next week.

There was a participant from nigeria attented my course last month. He told me he's been searching this type of practical course for such a long time. Currently he's staying in Malaysia doing some computer business and at night studying MBA in financial planning. I truly salute him because he shown his passion in electronic by taking the electronic repair course, got to manage his computer business, have to study part time-he even told me that he needs to learn hand's on in electronic repair so that in future wherever he go he will be ready!

Another student from Kuching Sarawak working in a big semiconductor company First Silicon Semiconductor (a joint venture company with the Korean and local government) had attended the basic electronic and basic monitor course. He is a degree holder in mechanical engineering from University Technology Of Malaysia. According to him, his boss wanted to start their own repair center and want him to in charge in the technical department. It is quite costly to everytime send back the electronic board for repair. Due to this responsibility, he must learn how to repair. He had tried searched a suitable electronic repair in kuching but couldn't find any and finally found our website thru the internet. He have the patience and learned quite fast and i believe he will be able to handle the technical department.

It's More Than A Month Since The Last Post

Please forgive me for taking sooooooooooo long time to post in this blog. In fact from now on i will post less due to heavy schedule. As you know currently i'm involved in giving talks to the public on how to make money from the internet. Not only that, i'm also busy conducting electronic repair courses for students. The last internet workshop only managed to pulled in 12 participants but i'm still satisfied due to some of the participants already made us dollars. Another Basic Electronic Repair Course

Last week had completed the basic monitor repair course and today start another basic electronic repair course for a participant from University Cyberjaya Melaka. To be honest it is quite tiring to give straight 3 days course and i got to take Fisherman's friend sweet to soften my throat from loosing my voice otherwise my voice would become like Rod Stewart the singer! Last weekend i brought my kids and wife for windows shopping just to relax a bit because monday have another course which is the basic electronic repair that i've mentioned above. I'm afraid i might not have enough time to write blog as frequent as last time due to tight schedule. The internet business workshop is approaching soon (29th of April) and next week i'm preparing another class for advance monitor repairing and troubleshooting course. The two students that had attended my basic monitor repair course begin the training at my workshop starting today. I made them to remove all electronic components from scrap monitor board . Today is to train their soldering skill and tomorrow will be testing equipment and check all the components that they had removed! I have plan for them on how to quickly make them to be pro in monitor repairing. As for the internet business workshop so far there's about 8 participants who had paid up and i believe more will pay up soon when the day of the course is approaching-last minutes registration. Basic Monitor Repair Course Start

Last week i mentioned about two students would be coming to attend the basic monitor repair and troubleshooting course. Today i started the course and they have learned a lot about monitor. Two more days to go and hope they will be able to follow and of course begin to troubleshoot some simple monitor problem after the course. Another good news is that they are planning to take the advanced monitor repair course. I told them once they have finished both the course i will allow them to join me in the technical department and start to repair customer monitors. This will truly expose them to the real world of monitor troubleshooting. Nothing beat the practical hands on when comes to learn about monitor troubleshooting. I will guide them throughout the training till they grasp the art of monitor repairing and i want them to be independent fast. A Fruitful Fishing Trip

It was a fruitful fishing trip cos we caught 3 Spanish mackerel and 18 triple tail fish. During the trip we enjoyed the fellowship among our group of six and all working pressure and stress just diminished! Along the journey we had our dinner together and when we reached the chalets we had some drinks and chat again for a while before we head straight to our rooms to prepare the next day going out to the sea for deep sea fishing. It's the time of togetherness and sharing, money can't buy all this. If you have been busy for such a long timewhy don't take a short break and relax your mind and body. Look at the pictures below and observe the scenery and the sunlight shine thru the sea-it's really wonderful and beautiful.

Selling Away Scrap Monitor And Printer

I've just sold 30+ units of scrap monitors and printers to a guy who's business is in dealing with refurbishing computers. What i've heard was all those spoilt monitor will send to China for refurbishing. This guy do not want any monitor that have burnt mark in the crt tube. It was a great relieve to see my office now have more space. Today i received a call from my previous basic electronic course student saying that he wants to proceed to the basic monitor repair course. At the same time my friend's son also wants to continue his study here. He had taken the basic electronic course two years ago. If everything goes well i will conduct the class very soon. Again i received an email from another participant confirming he wanted to start the basic electronic repair class on 17th of April. These are the good news to me and my company.
Tomorrow afternoon i will be going for a fishing trip with my friends at Merchung, Rompin-Pahang. It's been a long time since the last fishing trip to kelong. It was last year november. This is a good time for fishing as the sea now is more calm as compare when during monsoon time where no one dare to go to the sea due to strong wind, big wave and unpredictable wheather. Top View Of Monitor Mainboard Troubleshooting

Most of the time when we troubleshoot monitors we seldom look at the front side (view) of the main board. We will just take the meter or solder gun and begin troubleshooting and tracing the bad components at the back of the main board. Do you know that some monitor problems can only be solve by looking at the front side compare to the circuitry side. Why? Because you can observe any leaked in electrolytic capacitor, a burnt resistor, a cracked transistor, a loose wire or connector, a bulge capacitor and so forth. I still can remember there's one acer monitor which have a weird problem and i could not solve it. The problem is intermittent (sometimes have power and sometimes power blink) but when i look at the front side of the monitor mainboard and power on the monitor i saw a small blue light at the secondary side of the power supply. Close inspection found one of the resistor leg is touching the secondary diode. Both components is located just under the belly of the crt tube. If not because of the blue spark and looking at the mainboard from top and side view i would not have successfully troubleshoot the monitor. I suggest that if possible take out the whole board and see if you can find any trace of problems by looking at the board front side and of course it depends on the complaint or the problems of the monitor.

What If You Can't Find The Transistor Data From The Internet

There will be never ending production of monitor in the market. There's so many models and types of monitor and we as a monitor repairer sometimes finds it quite hard to follow the changes. Today I will be mentioning about the horizontal output transistor(HOT)used in monitor high voltage circuit. Quite often I came across new type of monitor that after 1 to 2 years in service the HOT became shorted and impossible to buy the exact number from local electronic supplier because the part number is still new and it might take another year to few years before it reach the market. From previous articles I do said that you have to find a replacement if you can't find the original number and the data you can get it from the internet. The question is what if the net do not have the part number that you are searching for? Then there is no way to know the original part number specification and you could not locate the right transistor choice for replacement. One good thing about testing is I found two Horizontal output transistor number that is good for replacement on many type of monitor model regardless how long the monitor have been manufactures. The part number is C5047 and C5411, both have higher amp, volt and watts and of course the other specicfication of the transistor tolerance is a little bit broad compare to other part numbers. J6810 and j6811 HOT have no problem substitute with c5411. If c5411 runs hot I will put in the c5047. This of course depends on the size of the monitor. C5047 is for 17" and above while the c5411 is for 14", 15" and 17". Remember to check the circuitry nearby for any defective components before installing this replacement transistor if not even an original part number installed will blow in less than 5 seconds or hours later.
As for the response from the newspaper about my internet workshop course, there were 26 callers so far and 2 have confirmed their seats, 4 have signed up and yet to pay while the rest my partner Mr David will do the follow up and hope to get them to sign up soon. Electronic Repair Books

Just came back from shopping with my family at a local shopping complex. Usually when I'm in the shopping complex i will head to the bookstore first while my wife and kids will be in the children's department. From the past few years i've observed that the book section for electronics is getting smaller and smaller while the computer section overflow with computer books. It's quite hard to find electronic troubleshooting books nowadays and most of the electronic books are more focusing on design and theory. Today i only managed to see an electronic troubleshooting book by homer l davidson. I believe in few more months this book will be gone and will never replace by any more books carry the title of troubleshooting and repairing electronic equipments. Most of my books i ordered through amazon and i like to read the troubleshooting books by TABs McGrawHill series. The last series was in around year 1999 to 2000. Even till now there's no more new troubleshooting books series from this publisher. From time to time i do scan thru the amazon bookstore to look for any new books and felt a little bit disappointed when there's no new books in electronic troubleshooting and repairing. I wonder if there's any authors writing the books on troubleshooting plasma tv, lcd monitor and etc. If you have seen one of those books kindly email me and i will appreciate you for letting me know.

Hp Laserjet 4 Plus Power Problem

This old laser jet came in with no power symptom. It is relatively easy to repair the power module of this hp laserjet 4 plus model because most of the time is the electrolytic capacitors that have leaked which cause no power. The electrolyte that leaked caused surrounding components to become defective. Other models of this series of hp laserjet also having the same problem which is electrolytic capacitor leaked! The primary section power ic is very robust and seldom breakdown. The first thing that you need to do is to remove all electrolytic capacitor that leaked and clean the area with thinner solution. The smell generated by the electrolyte is really smelly and you need to clean the affected area fast. Then you can begin to check the surrounding components. In my case, i've found two 100 microfarad 25 volt capacitor has leaked, one C1815 transistor shorted between the collector and emitter leg and a 100 ohm resistor turned into high ohms. Other area looks clean and found no electrolytic capacitor to be defective with my esr meter. All the defective components that i mentioned above is located at the secondary power side.

I would like to mention here is that sometimes a leaked capacitor can measure good with an esr meter. Why? Because the electrolyte that came out from the capacitor haven't reach till the critical level yet that's why it still check ok with any of your esr meter. You have to take note on this. Anyway if you see any leaked capacitor just direct replace it regardless whether it check ok or not using your esr meter! Some equipment still function properly even the capacitor is already start leaking. If you didn't replace it somehow one day when the level of the electrolyte drop to below the average level your equipment might show intermittent problem or totally not working at all. The worst part is the electrolyte might affect the surrounding components and cause the part number could not be seen. If this happen the chances for us to successfully repair the equipment is very slim.
The above two capacitors that have leaked have a temperature rating of 105 C. If you observe the monitor mainboard generally they are using the 85C because the ventilation in monitor is better than laserjet. The laserjet power module is totally sealed with screws and it became hot and i believe the hot environment cause the electrolytic capacitor to leak after such a long time.
Troubleshooting the laserjet power supply is not much different compare to monitor. When your basic electronics knowledge is strong generally you can repair most of the electronic problems.

Display Vertical Jump In Philip 17" 107E51

Usually the first thing that you do when you see any vertical jump in display would be vertical section. In this monitor, it is using the TDA8172 ic as vertical driver. Looking for any dry joint, burnt resistor or even a budge capacitor is very common as a first step to find out the culprit. But in this case the monitor looks new and the vertical section components are all intact and clean. The first thought that came to my mind was to check the electrolytic capacitors surrounding the vertical for any high esr reading. Well, the caps were all ok! From my previous experienced, i knew that the metallised polyester capacitor can develop intermittent problem or increase in ESR. So i check for any of this capacitor nearby this vertical ic. Yes, tracing from pin 5 of TDA8172 found one of this capacitor with the value of 334 100v which mean .33 microfarad 100 volt! Checking the capacitor on board with my dick smith esr meter showed that it has a very high esr reading about 53 ohm (dick smith esr meter can measure esr value until 99 ohms). When i compared with a known good and same value/voltage capacitor, it has a 4.2-4.4 ohms!
The value of the bad capacitor was way off from the good one. Replacing with a new capacitor solved the vertical jumping problem.
The bad capacitor when checked with digital capacitance meter it showed .32 microfarad and in the acceptable range. Checking the same cap with analog meter also can't reveal any defective sign in the capacitor. Sometimes only experience can tell on which meter you should depends on when troubleshooting this type of problem. Conclusion, in order to accurately check or measure a capacitor one need to test the capacitor for dielectric strength, esr, capacitance and leakage and all this can be done using the Sencore LC102 OR LC103 tester. However, if you do not have esr meter, just direct replace the suspected capacitor and retest again and hope the symptom will gone and of course this way will take you a lot of your precious time.

Internet Business Talk

QDK TE555 Monitor Problem

This monitor came in with no power symptom. Upon checking found the horizontal output transistor (HOT) completely shorted between all the legs. The part number is 2SC5296 and as mentioned before do not straight away replace the part and switch on the monitor as it might blow the HOT again. You have to find out why the HOT blow. It could blow by itself (due the transistor own life span which is very rare) or some other components that link to the transistor that is faulty which is quite common. As usual I've got to check the flyback, b+ line and some other components that link to the HOT. All of the major components that link to the HOT seems to be ok. Close inspection at the horizontal output transformer area found the supply voltage resistor to the horizontal output transformer dry joint at one leg. Due to this intermittent supply, the output waveform of the transformer definitely affected and thus the HOT would be affected as well and this blow the HOT. Replacing the HOT and solder back the dry joint solved the problem. Conclusion- first I thought it could be a faulty component that blowed the HOT and it turned out to be only a dry joint. So in future do not overlook dry joint otherwise you might end up unable to solve the problem.

Transistor Tester

I came across a monitor that have lines slowly moving upwards the screen. I could not locate as where is the section that caused the problem. When I carefully look at the mainboard I saw one portion at the dynamic focus circuitry a bit dark in color so I presumed those transistors in the circuit must be working very hard. Checking the transistors and all related components to be in working condition. But when I use a coolant to spray the area I found that the lines disappeared immediately. I applied heat using hair blower and coolant again and found one of the transistors giving fault. That's mean when I spray the particular transistor the lines totally goes off.
I took out the transistor and checked with an analog meter and it measured ok. The problem surfaced when I checked the transistor with peak electronics atlas transistor tester. The hfe reading of a known good one compare to the bad transistor was totally off the tolerance. The transistor part number is KSP44 or equivalent to MPSA44. Replacing the transistor solved the lines problem. How I wish if I have either the b&k or sencore transistor tester which I believed is very accurate when checking any transistors including the Fet,scr and other three leg devices. The transistor problem mentioned above is very uncommon and generally an analog meter alone will do the job. Hair blower and coolant also contribute in helping us to find out the culprit fast especially in the 'intermittent' case. If you do not have the gadget above the only choice for you is to direct replace the suspected components and hope the problem could be solved.

Likom 17" D1730LD Monitor Problem

A repair friend of mine sent in a likom 17" monitor for me to repair and the complaint is horizontal output transistor-BU4523AX (HOT), modulation diode (31DF6) and damper diode (BY329X-1200) shorted after running for couple of days. He could not understand why the particular components blown after using for few days. This is the third repair when he sent it to my workshop and everytime the same components burnt! He already checked all those important parts in the monitor such as the b+ line, flyback transformer, horizontal driver transformer area, secondary power section and even direct replaced most of the electrolytic capacitors. For your information, this repair friend of mine do not have esr meter-due to this he have to change all the electrolytic capacitors and took him a lot of time.
After the monitor cover had been removed i did not straight away change the suspected or spoilt components because i knew that if i replace all the bad components, the same problems will appear again after running for few days and you will be back to the square one. Instead, i carefully scan thru the board and hope to find the culprit first. I could not believe what i discovered, a tiny round of dry joint at one of the pin of flyback transformer. I believed my repair friend didn't take out the flyback transformer to check it entirely, he just checked the internal capacitance. In electronic repair sometimes we overlooked simple fault (which is dry joint) and try to locate or find any components that causing a problem. It is not necessary must be some major components faulty that cause big problem. It just take a tiny dry joint to make major destruction in any electronic equipments. Applied fresh solder and replaced the components solved the problem.

ECG Transistor Replacements

Quite often when we come across any transistor problems like finding the specification of a transistor we will usually look for transistor data book. It is either from the handy transistor replacement guide book volume 1 and volume 2 or from the Philip ecg master replacement. If you are in the electronic repair industry I suggest that you get these data books as it will help you to save time especially finding an equivalent transistor part number. The ecg master replacement guide have more data or info compare to the handy transistor guide book. You have to remember this though the transistor guide book recommend some other transistor part number as substitution but not all are accurate. Of course you can use the substitution part number suggested as your replacement first, if work then it's ok however if the replacement transistor keep on shorting you might consider to get some in-depth information straight from the manufacturer.
The data provided in the ecg transistor replacements book sometimes is not enough to find a 'good' replacement. Just go to google search engine and type in the transistor part number. If possible key in the whole part number for example if you type in the part number such as the 5S0965 you will not get to the manufacturer instead it list down some electronic suppliers or distributors selling the particular parts. Type in the complete part number KA5S0965 and this will make the google to find the exact info and sometimes straight to the KA5S0965 pdf file where you can download and compare the data. Always remember that use only the original part first so that the equipment will last longer. If you really can't get the original part number then substitution is the only solution.

Internet Business Workshop

Yesterday I and two of my internet business friends met at my office talked about giving another internet business workshop to the public at the end of April. We felt that this is the time to go full force on this topic since internet business is getting more popular and demand from the market. You could see many internet gurus advertising in the local newspaper to help those who are interested to set up internet business the easy way. Ok back to the basic electronic repair course, when I told my student about the books that he should buy in order to enhance his knowledge in electronic repair, on that day evening just after the course, he immediately went to the bookshop in the center of town to get the books. Passion For Electronic Repair

There's only one student in the class and I don't mind that as long as he have the passion for electronics I will continue to guide him. He's a type of guy that like to learn new things. He have a diploma in computer studies and studying part time degree course in one of the local institution. Morning he help his father and uncle to run the fumigation business and at night go for classes. One thing I discovered from him is that he also like internet marketing. He even bought some internet business material online and may go for my internet workshop if I'm conducting one in times to come. He love reading books such as the computer networking, motivation (he even had read the Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T Kiyosaki book), internet business and coming in the list would be the electronic repair book. Why I told you about his story? Simple, the answer is diversify! From my previous articles and post I've mentioned many times that one should learn extra skill or knowledge. As for him, currently he had chosen the electronic repair though he is already good in his field which is the computer networking. Learning has no end but giving up on learning will make you stagnant and please don't expect different result from the same thing you do everyday. If you have something in your mind now and would like to do it then don't delay, continue to pursue it till you succeed. Seek and you shall find.

Basic Electronic Course Start Tomorrow

I could not believe that I've forgotten to bring along my digital camera. I was in a rush and didn't really check my thing. I thought the digital camera is in the viewcam bag when I opened it only did I realized that I've placed my digital camera on the computer table. I managed to take my viewcam to shoot some of the nice scenery at the Cameron highlands. The Sony viewcam have the function of capturing images like a digital camera but when I finished copying the tape to my computer the image that I captured is not in jpeg file. It took me quite a number of hours to play around with this viewcam and yet I still could not make it into jpeg file. I need the jpeg file so that I can upload to the internet for you to see the beautiful pictures. When I have sorted this problems out I will upload again. About this trip, well I can say it is a good and fruitful trip. The journey took around 3 hours from my house to Cameron highlands. My kids and my wife really enjoyed so much especially in the butterfly farm. Can you imagine we went in twice in two days and each visit there's a charge of RM5.00 for adults and RM2.00 for children which is cheap.
My wife bought flowers for home decoration, fresh vegetables and honey corn which is very delicious, yummy-yummy! The price is very cheap if compare to the city and the strawberry park you can pluck the strawberry and they will charge base on how many you have plucked or by weight. When morning comes the place is full of mist and is very cold. I could see there's a lot of foreigners especially the japanese and westerners.
While having lunch I received a call from a guy who said that he is interested in my basic electronic course. Well, since he is keen on my course, I set the course on monday morning which is tomorrow. When we reached home my wife said that the next trip she will bring along her parents together. Ok for now need to rest early and prepare for the class tomorrow.

Holiday trip to Cameron Highlands

I'm not posting any technical repair tips today as I'm preparing to go to Cameron Highlands to celebrate my wife birthday tomorrow. I'll be leaving early in the morning and expected to reach there about noon. I and my family will be staying in the Equatorial Cameron highlands hotel. The place is located at 1,628 meters above sea level, surrounded by mountains.The weather is cold and there's a lot of farms such as the wild orchid, honey bee, butterfly and rose valley. Most of malaysia's vegetable and flowers came from this place. There's also a well famous place called 'BOH TEA Plantation' which is the Malaysia's pioneering tea company and one of Asia's leading tea names. Focus Problem in Goldstar CF-29C37T TV

Though the picture problem solved, it still have one more problem which is focus out after on for sometimes. To find out if the flyback, crt socket or picture tube that cause the focus problem i use the Kaise high voltage probe. Unplug the focus wire and switch on the tv and start monitoring the focus voltage with the high voltage probe. In less than 10 minutes i can see that the high voltage slowly rised from 11.5kv to 13kv! If i continue to let the tv on i can expect the high voltage could reach 14kv. Due to the increased of focus voltage the picture slowly getting blur. Since i do not have a new flyback with me i add in a monitor blur buster to try it out. The monitor blur buster i have tested on thousands of monitor but not on Tv. You will be amazed that it actually worked in tv also. The picture looks normal and sharp even after i switch on the tv for hours. I was quite surprised to see a tv became blur as to my knowledge the tv flyback voltage divider normally can last very long as compare to monitor. Maybe this is an old tv and the flyback give way sooner than it should be. Imagine if you do not have the high voltage probe, you will be in the guessing game as which of the components that breakdown after sometimes!

Problems Solved Using ESR Meter

Every day when I reached home after picking up my children and wife, I got to head straight to my bed to take a 15-30 minutes short nap otherwise I would be feeling sleepy and no concentration in doing my work at night. Remember the 29" TV that I told you 2 days ago? The complaint was picture came out after about 30 seconds. I start checking all the electrolytic capacitors first and found 2 caps that have a high esr. One is in the power section-220uf 25v, the esr increased to 5.1 ohm while the other cap was 10uf 250v located at the horizontal driver transformer area. Replacing the two capacitors solved the problem as now the tv only takes around 4-5 seconds for the picture to appear. The esr meter is a real gem to me as it already solved quite a lot of capacitors problems and it already paid itself back many many many times. For those of you who still haven't invest any esr meter I suggest you to do so as it can speed up your repair work and no guessing game.

Flyback Problem In Dell E550 Monitor Solved

No power was the complaint of this monitor. Upon checking found only horizontal output transistor became short circuit. The part number is C5552 and since I do not have this part I substitute it with C5587. When I power on the monitor I heard arcing sound and from close inspection I saw a blue light coming out from the crt socket. I suspect that the focus voltage have increased and arc to the surrounding ground. Using my faithful Kaise high voltage probe to check on the focus voltage-the voltage has increased to more than 10 Kv. This problem is mainly due to the defective part in the voltage divider unit. A working unit focus voltage should be around 5-7 Kv. Since I do not have this flyback (the part number is 19.70060) what I do is I pulled out the focus wire and cover the hole with super glue and taped the G2 screen cable. Then I installed a new monitor blur buster and connect the focus and G2 cable to its original place which is the crt board. Voila! the unit worked perfectly fine! I let it run for more than 8 hours without any arcing sound from the monitor and I will let it burn in again for few more days. Sometimes in our repair field we got to think like Mac Gyver (modification) otherwise many units would not be able to repair due to unavailability of spare parts. One more thing, nowadays it is hard to get original electronic parts from our local electronic distributors and this make our live a little bit tough when comes to repair any equipment that is quite new in the market.

Intermittent Diode Open Circuit

Today afternoon a customer sent me a china made monitor for me to repair and the complaint is no power. First I discharge the big filter capacitor with a 2.2kohm 10 watt resistor before using the dick smith flyback tester to measure the primary winding of the power transformer. This is my usual technique to troubleshoot any power supply problem. The meter shown more than 5 bars and this prove that the primary winding is ok, power fet not shorted and of course all the secondary power diode in good condition. For your information if any of the secondary diode short, it can pull down the meter's reading to 1 bar or totally goes off. Flyback, yoke coil, b+ fet and horizontal output transistor tested to be ok. I power on the monitor to measure the voltage .
I found that one of the secondary diode have low voltage and sometimes no voltage at all but the other line voltage all seems to be normal. When I took out the diode and check the reading was ok so I suspect it could be something along the line that have problems but no components found to be defective along the line. I took out the diode and recheck again and this time it have no reading at all even forward bias! This diode is an ultra fast recovery diode and the part number is HER302. Replaced a new diode solved the no power symptom. Conclusion-our normal multimeter is not enough power to check this type of intermittent problem, fortunately diode seldom breakdown like that and it is either short circuit or open circuit but not intermittent.
That's why when you go to search engine and key in the word 'diode checker', it came out some list or company that is specially selling only diode checker or tester that cost thousands of dollars. I believe this expensive diode checker can detect the intermittent diode problem.

Repaired Sony TV KV-1485GE

Last week my brother in law sent me a Sony TV for repair, he's in the cctv industry. Though I rarely repair TV, the experienced that I gained from repairing monitor can be apply to repair TV. The complaint was no power, upon checking found quite a number of defective components in the power circuit. The fuse was blown into pieces, protection resistor 3.3 ohm became open circuit, resin type ceramic capacitor 222-2kv split into two, 47uf 25v electrolytic capacitor esr has increased and finally the power ic strs6307 also need to be replace. Using my flyback tester measuring the primary winding of the power transformer found to have more than 5 bars which mean the winding is good and there is no secondary diode shorted at the secondary side of the power supply. Optoisolator checked to be ok together with other components. Replacing the defective parts above solve the no power symptom. From the outlook of the components that got burnt, it seems that it had been hit by a high surge.
When I call him saying that his TV already repaired, he added that he got another 29" goldstar TV for me to repair. The complaint is picture comes out only after couple of minutes. I suspect it could be the tube or the heater circuit. I will let you know how is the outcome when the TV is repaired. Well it seems that I'm now into TV repairing!

It's been a long time

Sorry for not posting for such a long time. If you read my previous post you will noticed that my kids is schooling now and they need more attention compare when they were young. Most of my time have been taken up by sending my kids to school and wife to work. Then have to pick them up again after school and work. At night send my son for Mandarin course. At office, there's ton of repair work need to be done. Although this routine job made me real tired,i have the joy of seeing them happy and drawn closer to them. I knew that i can delicate this routine job to other such as hiring a school bus and get another car for my wife but somehow i just like doing it. After adjusting the schedule, now only i have the time to continue to do my work at night which is writing electronic articles and updating my electronic repair blog. Thanks to those who wrote and concerned about me and my family.

School opens today and brought my son and daughter to register at their school and kindergarten. It took me almost half a day to completely settle all the registration thing and when i reached office during lunch time customers begins to send in monitors for repair and received quite a number of calls for pick up. After a long holiday break and now back to business. I have solved couples of tough dog monitors that had been laid down at my bench for sometime. New year means new challenge for me and new goal that need to be done. Don't do the same thing and expect different result! Go out and take courses, learn new skill and new thing, don't limit yourself, don't be stagnant, don't live in your past, be prepare to take the challenges, be prepare to part from your old ways, be prepare to take risk! Google's Greeting Card

When I reached home after spending few nights at my in-law's house in Muar, I saw a letter in my post box and it turned out to be Googles's greeting card for the New Year. Why google sent me the card? As you know that besides doing monitor repair and conduct electronic repair courses, I'm also heavily venture into the internet business. I'm using google search engine to advertise products. I spent quite a lot in the google advertising in order to make sales. December month usually was a slow month but somehow this year I got ton's of repair work- Even holiday season customers still keep on sending monitor and printers for us to repair-Thank God!

Last week a friend of mine sent a CNC monitor for me to repair. The complaint is dim and I told him that I don't repair cnc monitor due to can't test the monitor unless it is a simple problem such as no power. It uses different connector and the monitor is designed to work in the industrial machine and the price can be very expensive ranging from Us2000.00 and above. Most Cnc monitor that I came across mostly are made in Germany and United Kingdom. Anyhow I recommended him to my friend who is pro in repairing cnc machine. He told me he might have to swap samsung monitor pc tube to solve the cnc monitor dim problem. The cnc monitor is 'On' for 24 hours and no wonder the display gets dim faster than it should be. Pc tube are designed to run base on operating hour. Some last for less than 15,000 hours while some can go more than 20,000 hours. In lcd monitor backlight some manufacturer claimed that their lcd monitor back light can last more than 50,000 hours.
About my friend who repair the cnc monitor, he had a Ups repair background than venture into monitor business than into this cnc machine. He told me that monitor repair business is a little bit tough (competition). He added that he can charge higher to repair cnc machine and less competitor. As I mentioned before in my previous electronic repair articles, one must diversify or learn something new to cope up with the current changes. He had chosen the CNC machine repair and as for me I have chosen the internet business. Oh yes! One more thing even when I'm at my in -law's house the internet business is still running and making money (whether you are sleeping or going for holiday). That's the good thing about internet business-24/7/365!

Tomorrow morning i will be going to my in-law's house in Muar, Johor to celebrate Christmas and enjoy the long holiday break. It's a three hours journey from KL and i like the food there and you can see a lot of Singporean go there as well. I will bring my family to watch 'King Kong' and 'Chronicle of Narnia' and enjoy the scenery at the estuary. Most of the time we as electronic repairer need this kind of break to destress ourselves. I've bought the atlas transistor tester few years ago and i can say that it worth the investment. Why? because the tester have helped me to identified what type and pin designation of a component especially transistor. I don't use it all the time but when i came across any transistor that have a missing part number or new part number in the market then only will i use it to identify what sort of transistor is it. Final Day on Basic Electronic Troubleshooting Course

The last day i covered transistor which include bipolar transistor, field effect transistor, horizontal output transistor and Darlington transistor, how to read semiconductor replacement data book, build another project kit to make them familiarize with circuit and recognizing components (make perfect their skill in using meters, solder gun, desoldering tool, cutter, plier, and etc). After that i pass them a board containing good and spoilt components and want them to find out only the bad component for me. With this method, i can really test their knowledge and where their weakness is. They are very happy after completion of the course and looking forward for the basic monitor troubleshooting and repair course. Here are the pictures taken during the course:

Second Day On the Electronic Repair Course

Today's topic i covered transformer, diode, bridge rectifier, zener diode, capacitor,
coil, ic, voltage regulator, and fixing power supply project kit. Till now i could see improvement in them especially the practical part. When i passes the power supply kit to them they already knew what to do such as checking all the components before fixing it-less dependant on me which is a good indicator to me. As i mentioned in yesterday's post that i emphasize on practical. I guide them on how to look at electronic the practical way. I don't teach them with overloaded of electronic formula-i lead them just the way on how a technician look at electronic equipment before he begin to troubleshoot. Tomorrow i will post the pictures of the students doing practical work.

First Day on Basic Electronic Repair Course

The three tech's from Malaysian Airport Technologies that attending my basic electronic course today have little or no experience in electronic troubleshooting but have knowledge in IT support. Two of them have a diploma in computer science and the other one with diploma in engineering. The topic that i covered was safety, fixing fluorescent lamp, ohms law, series-parallel circuit, understanding analog-digital multimeter, ac-dc circuit, resistor, variable resistor, fuses and LED. I could see that they are happy of learning something new like be able to calculate the resistor code and using the right way to check a resistor. I still could remember when i was studying diploma course on the subject of resistance and ohms law- even after few weeks there's still no chance to 'hands on' on how to distinguish between a good and a bad resistor. Well, in order to complete the course you have no choice other than to calculate and memorizing the formula. In this basic electronic course i don't emphasize too much on calculation, i give them more practical and exposing them to the real world of troubleshooting and repair of electronic equipment-afterall troubleshooting electronic is fun!

Internal View Of Flyback Divider

While preparing the class for the basic electronic repair course i saw a 17" flyback divider among the other good and spoilt flyback's. From previous post i did show you some pictures on the inside of flyback transformer. Well, i guess this picture is more clearer compare to the last one. The top rectangular white board is the bleeder resistor while the biggest cap at the left side is the film capacitor that frequently spoilt. The two small capacitors is for the dynamic focus purposes. Hope you get to know the inside circuitry and will be able to measure if any suspected flyback comes along your repair bench.

Google Internet Marketing Workshop

Yesterday i was invited as a guest speaker by a friend to help out his internet marketing workshop. It was a one day workshop and concentrating how to make US dollars using google adwords and affiliate programs. There were 13 participants and came from all kind of profession. Some are contractors, insurance agents, engineers and even a dentist! Most of them want to try making money on the internet as a second income and they have shown their passions by attending this workshop. There's two participants even came from other states which is few hundreds kilometres away from KL. They open up their options and chosen this course eventhough they are already an expert in their field. Few years ago i opened up my option to take on this new challenge and now considered to be successful in internet business. Besides repairing monitor and teaching electronic repair courses to students, when i have free time i will do my internet business at the comfort of my home. Basic Electronic Course

Next week i'll be conducting basic electronic course for three technicians from Malaysian Airport . I will train them to be familiar with basic electronic and later to attend the basic and advance monitor course. The tech's job is to repair the combo monitor/tv screen equipment. Those are the screen that show the departure and arrival at the airport. Previously i had conducted 3 classes for them and now they are sending the fourth group. The screen are made in the UK and cost more than rm 25,000 each thus the tech need to repair it. There's more than 1000 unit and each month may be 10- 15 unit broke down. The equipment is 'on' for 24 hours a day. If they send the equipment to UK for repair, it will cost them a lot and of course time consuming. I've seen the mainboard and schematic of the equipment and the design are much the same as normal monitor except that it have some frequencies board similar to Tv. The board material and flyback look solid. In fact the course that i'm going to conduct is customize to their needs which mean i'm going to teach them base on their mainboard and the schematic. This way will make them become pro on that equipment in the shortest time.

Going Holiday With My Family

Since now is a school holiday season, i'm going to Bukit Tinggi Resort nearby Genting Highland with my family for a short break. I'm bringing along my wife, son(Noah) and daughter(hannah) to this cool, refreshing countryside. There's also a rabbit farm which i think the children will truly enjoy. Don't be surprise to see a different code for 1n4148 signal diode. It marked only 48 and you could not see full part number which is the 1N4148. Do not think also that it is a 48 volt diode. Not all equipments are using this different code but if you come across a diode that mark '48' then automatically you have to know it is a 1n4148 diode!
